Karin Sander's project 494h 29m 53s presents 1,254 video films from the collection of the Video Forum of the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) in the studio of the Academy of Arts on Hanseatenweg, sorted by running time.
The video films by 574 artists and artist groups will be shown consecutively – from the shortest to the longest – in a 494-hour long-running screening.
The studio program follows a structured schedule with 12-hour daily projections and 24-hour projections on weekends, and will take place on 31 days starting July 3, 2025.
Founded in 1971 on the initiative of artists and cultural producers, the n.b.k. Video Forum is the oldest video art collection in Germany – and one of the largest. The collection focuses on Fluxus, feminist video practice, historical and contemporary video art from Berlin, and media-reflexive approaches. The artist Karin Sander is using the collection as an opportunity to re-envision its comprehensiveness and present it as a "grand cinema" at the Academy.
494h 29m 53s provides an overview of more than 50 years of international video art, presenting all artists, regardless of origin, gender, and period of activity, equally, one after the other and side by side. In an experience characterized by arrangement, sequence, and time, new and unexpected juxtapositions emerge.
Visitors can join and leave the screenings at their own discretion. A program booklet provides orientation with specific information about the artists, videos, and timelines.
A summer bar in the courtyard of the Academy of Arts invites you to enjoy drinks and snacks.
