Opening: 28 May, 7 pm with live audiovisual performance by Eternal Engine PopUpStore in the Rathauscenter Pankow Breite Straße 20, 1st floor, 13187 Berlin
What grows inside consumer systems? This second part of the exhibition turns to fragile formations - artefacts, terrarium images and synthetic ecologies that do not arise in contradiction to capitalism, but from its residues. The works speculate on a post-digital life in which what we call nature and technology intermingle, glitch and hybridise.
About the two-part exhibition series pseudo-co.: spawning alt-reality pseudo-co.:
spawning alt-reality deliberately pushes itself into a fold of the retail space - in two acts - and examines how bodies dissolve, mutate and merge in the consumer space.
Subjects who possess nothing - whose lives are tied to fleeting bonus points of happiness - wander through virtual medieval corridors. Paradoxically, individualisation is intensifying while at the same time dissolving into swarms of data. If capital is a self-replicating algorithm, then the bio-digital mutation that flows through this architecture is its fuel.
In the glare of capitalist realism, gondolas and LED signs crystallise into a hypnagogic state. Even in the knowledge of emptiness, we continue to invest desire and guilt in the commodity, anchoring enjoyment (‘jouissance’) in every ‘limited offer’. With hardly any affective resistance left - and as the overall fire accelerates - pseudo-co. transforms the shopping centre into a playing field of these forces: a space of tension in which visitors must decide whether to inhabit, parasitise or hack it (guest, parasite or co-agent).
Finissage: 7 June, 7 pm
