A concert could hardly be more Christmassy: festive sounds, jingling sleighs, and musical Christmas wishes make the anticipation of the holidays audible.
The focus is on Erich Wolfgang Korngold's enchanting ballet The Snowman, in which Colombine and Pierrot escape from the clutches of their Uncle Pantaloon with the help of a magical snowman – vividly narrated by a narrator.
The festive finale is Otto Nicolai's atmospheric Christmas overture with imaginative variations on the chorale "Vom Himmel hoch."
