Under the patronage of Bishop Dr. Christian Stäblein
The musical arrangement of many church services is literally "in the hands" of volunteer or part-time organ players. They bring a lot of skill, love and commitment to the process.
Organ music makes a significant contribution to how people experience church services. A well-chosen prelude can help people to gather themselves and open up for the service. A postlude can cause people to calmly reflect on what they have experienced, or it can make them leave the church excited and with a happy heart.
Good accompaniment to the congregational songs is very important for a successful church service. Even if they are rarely aware of it: many people feel very clearly when the introduction and accompaniment to the song motivates them, carries them, lets them breathe well and sing.
With this competition, the Church Musicians' Association, in cooperation with the Church Music Department of the EKBO and the Luther Church Congregation of Spandau, would like to offer the many volunteer or part-time organists a forum to present their skills and to exchange ideas with one another, and to give them recognition and appreciation.
