more than human. design after the Anthropocene
The exhibition "Symbiotic Wood" is dedicated to life with wood as a "more than human" material. Climate change and forestry monocultures have led to an increased infestation of forests by insects and fungi, which seems to devalue the harvested wood from a human perspective.
The exhibition examines the traces and effects of other species, in particular the bark beetle, on the wood and invites you to re-evaluate the material in question.
In various rooms and prototypes, the topic unfolds as a symbiosis between scientific and cultural knowledge and creative action that connects the past, present and future. Workshops and lectures offer the opportunity to talk to the public about a symbiotic relationship with wood and its ecological companions.
"Symbiotic Wood" is a project of the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity" at the Humboldt University of Berlin and part of the __matter Festival 2025.
