Passionskirche
Church-like sound experience
Standing in the heart of Marheinekeplatz in Kreuzberg, the Passionskirche rises up like a small brick castle. Built between 1905 and 1908 to a design by Theodor Astfalck, the church is one of the most striking religious buildings in the Tempelhofer Vorstadt district. Its Neo-Romanesque style, square floor plan and corner towers give the building the shape of a Greek cross.
Inside, a largely preserved historic ambience awaits you: particularly worth seeing is the large circular Art Nouveau chandelier with coloured glass, a donation from Siemens. The stained-glass windows depicting Gethsemane, the Crucifixion and the Descent from the Cross also contribute to the church’s special atmosphere.
Today, the Passionskirche is not only a place for worship and quiet reflection, but also a vibrant cultural and event venue in the heart of Kreuzberg. Thanks to extensive renovations, it is accessible all year round and has been fitted out to be barrier-free.
