Here you find winter fun and festive vibes in January

The Christmas season is coming to an end - but don't worry: winter in Berlin is far from over! If you fancy a stroll through an atmospheric market with a last mulled wine, the winter market on Schlossplatz is just the thing for you. Or you can be enchanted by the illuminated installations, for example at the Christmas Garden in the Botanical Garden or at the winter light show in Tierpark Berlin.

There are also plenty of highlights waiting for you outside of the typical Christmas season: ice skating under floating Christmas trees, après-ski vibes on the outskirts of the city or an immersive trip to the Arctic - you're guaranteed not to get bored this Berlin winter. 11 tips for an unforgettable winter in Berlin!

Tip 1: Winter market on Schlossplatz

Right next to the Humboldt Forum, the Schlossplatz winter market with its festive lights and over 150 artistically designed stalls invites you to say goodbye to the Christmas season with a last mulled wine. Enjoy Christmas treats and be enchanted by the wintery light installations in the Schlüterhof.

Tip 2: Christmas Garden in the Botanical Garden

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in a sparkling winter wonderland in the Botanical Garden! Magical light installations await you on a 1.5-hour circular route that will enchant young and old alike. Along the route through the various light installations, there are always stalls where you can enjoy refreshments.

When: until 11 January, daily from 4.30 pm (tickets are best purchased online in advance)

Tip 3: Tierpark Berlin

Experience Tierpark Berlin in a magical sea of lights! A two-kilometre circular trail leads you past sparkling light installations that transform the wintry landscape into a magical wonderland. Festively decorated food stalls with savoury and sweet treats await you along the way.

Tip 4: Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

You can also find a Christmas atmosphere around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church until January. Not far from KaDeWes, Bikini Berlin and Kurfürstendamm, colourful stalls with delicious food and handicrafts beckon. This is a great place to combine a last visit to the Christmas market with shopping or gift exchange.

Tip: The Christmas market at KaDeWe is open until 1 January.

Tip 5: Berlin glow forest on Uber Platz

The Christmas market on Uber Platz is still open and ideal for anyone who likes a cosy atmosphere. Directly opposite the East Side Gallery, an atmospheric winter forest with hundreds of fir trees, fire pits to warm up by and a large selection of mulled wine and punch awaits you.

Tip 6: Ice rink in the centre at Potsdamer Platz

Until the end of January, the ice rink in the centre at Potsdamer Platz invites you to enjoy winter fun. Around the 600 square metre covered ice rink, cafés and restaurants invite you to warm up. A real winter highlight for Berliners and guests. School classes and groups can also use the ice: Special morning times are available on request. Tickets are only available digitally and can be conveniently booked online or on site.

Tip 7: Forest Winterlights

At Dark Matter, you can skate until mid-February in the middle of an art installation. At Forest - Winterlights , you can skate under 600 upside-down fir trees through a poetic winter forest. The immersive sound and light installation unfolds in 45-minute, recurring cycles. The light installation by artist Christopher Bauder is accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack by Dutch musician Chris Kuijten. A very special Berlin winter experience.

Tip 8: Christmas market in the winter quarter

White Christmases are always a thing in Berlin. We can't promise you snow, but we can promise you ice and winter flair. Until the end of February, the Winterquartier in the Napoleon complex in Friedrichshain invites you to go ice skating and curling. Look forward to winter street food, warm drinks and a varied cultural programme, regardless of the weather.

Tip: 31 December is family day!

Tip 9: Winterwelt Grünau

Grünau lido is also transformed into a lively winter wonderland for the whole family during the colder months. Between real fir trees, lights and cosy huts, a large ice rink with real ice, ice skating disco at the weekend and cosy huts with après-ski flair await you.

Tip: In addition to ice skating, a large indoor play area, an outdoor playground and a varied entertainment programme ensure winter fun - ideal for families with children.

What would Christmas be without the trappings? Without the lovely decorations that we take out of their boxes and cartons in the run-up to Christmas and festively display? You can find pretty Christmas decorations all year round in the large Käthe Wohlfahrt store directly on Kurfürstendamm. On two floors, it sparkles and shines in all shapes and colours - classic and rustic, modern, in gold or silver. The perfect place for a Christmas souvenir from Berlin!

Tip 11: Travel to the Arctic at the Polar Experience in Berlin

And finally, a very special tip. "POLAR EXPERIENCE - The immersive exhibition about the Arctic and Antarctic" takes you on a journey to the eternal ice. And right in the centre of Berlin. The world premiere takes you to the North and South Poles with state-of-the-art projection technology, sound worlds and storytelling - from the research vessel Polarstern to the Neumayer Station. An exciting and scientifically sound exhibition with many interactive elements and perfect for grey winter days in Berlin.
