Exhibition: Cultural Contacts. Living in Europe

The exhibition shows a cross-section of the diverse collections of the Museum of European Cultures on 700 square metres. With its thematic approach, it picks up discussions about social movements and demarcations. For example, a magnificent gondola from Venice, built in 1910, is representative of all thematic areas from trade and travel to migration and cultural localisation.

Exhibition: The Giant Mechanical Nativity Scene from the Ore Mountains

On 15 square meters the most important stages of Jesus' life are depicted by more than 300 figures. The master painter Max Vogel built this mountain, but it was last completely assembled in 1940. In 1987, Karl-Heinz Fischer bought the mountain and renewed it with a small technical marvel, which enables the movement of the figures.

Special exhibition: Christmas Time with All the Senses - Surprises out of the MEK’s Collection

Let yourself be whisked away into the festive world of European culture and immerse yourself in European Christmas traditions. This exhibition shows how Christmas is celebrated in different regions of Europe. Whether through Christmas scents, biscuits, festive decorations or traditional Christmas carols - here you will experience a unique journey through the diversity of customs. Exciting insights into European Christmas customs, festively decorated rooms and exhibits from different countries allow you to experience the traditions at first hand. The emotions and stories behind the customs take centre stage here.

Special exhibition: ALL HANDS ON: Basketry

The craft of this complex braiding technique has been practiced for several thousand years and now you can experience this fascination: Braided everyday objects from Europe are displayed in the Museum of European Cultures spread across the four exhibition areas of People, Protection, Material and Pattern. One of the highlights is a walk-in room sculpture by artist Olaf Holzapfel and the interactive stations for visitors.

Special exhibition: Muslim InVisibilities - Three Variations of One Installation

The exhibition "Muslim Invisibilities" at the Museum of European Cultures in Berlin sheds light on the many facets of Muslim life in Europe and invites visitors to discover hidden stories and objects. The diversity of Muslim life has been part of everyday European culture for centuries. Experience how this diversity is reflected in the museum's collections.
