The Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin is home to extensive collections of contemporary art, which are exhibited in numerous exhibitions. The exhibition space itself covers over 10,000 square metres, making it one of the world's largest and most important public collections of contemporary art.
Delcy Morelos: Madre
With her first solo exhibition in Germany, Colombian artist Delcy Morelos is transforming the Hamburger Bahnhof into a sensually tangible work of art. Her new installation ‘Madre’ makes direct reference to the space itself - its light, climate, sounds and atmosphere - and invites visitors to immerse themselves in a powerful interplay of earth, nature and human connection. The central theme of the work is man's relationship with the earth. Morelos also addresses the knowledge of indigenous cultures and the power of regeneration.
Toyin Ojih Odutola: U22 - Adijatu Straße
In her first solo exhibition in Germany, Toyin Ojih Odutola is presenting around 25 impressive works on paper and canvas at Hamburger Bahnhof. Her figurative drawings tell stories: They portray fictional personalities in everyday or symbolically charged settings - often embedded in complex architectural structures. With a keen sense of atmosphere and detail, the artist creates vivid, almost cinematic visual worlds. For the exhibition, Ojih Odutola has transformed the museum's East Cabinet into an imaginary underground station: Adijatu Street, part of the fictitious U22 line.
CHANEL Commission: Klára Hosnedlová. embrace
With her largest solo exhibition to date, Czech artist Klára Hosnedlová is transforming the historic hall of Hamburg's railway station into a monumental, walk-in setting. ‘embrace’ is part of the CHANEL Next Prize Commission and addresses themes such as home, everyday culture and utopian thinking in different political systems.
The installation is a multi-layered artistic landscape made of materials such as flax fibres, embroidered textiles, cast glass, sandstone, clay, iron and concrete slabs. Her motifs are inspired by architecture, literature and film, which have shaped the cultural memory of border regions in today's Czech Republic. The installation reflects the traces left behind by artisanal and industrial processes as well as political upheavals in rural areas.
