The vegan street food scene in Berlin is full of delicious options. Even if you only occasionally try vegan and vegetarian options, these tips are absolutely worthwhile for you. Vegan street food has long since proven that it can hold its own in terms of flavour and feel-good factor.

Our tips for enjoying vegan street food:

The classics: kebab and currywurst

Berlin simply wouldn't be what it is without kebabs and currywurst. Famished night owls count these two dishes among their favourites and they are always the perfect way to fill that little gap in the stomach. It goes without saying that both are also available in vegan versions in Berlin. We can't tell you where to eat the best currywurst or kebab at this point, because that would probably start a war.

Here are a few well-known addresses:

  • Witty's Currywurst - An address for currywurst in Berlin since 1984. The version with meat emphasises organic, the recipe for the vegan alternative is developed in-house.
  • Konnopke's snack bar - Also an absolute original and even known as the "oldest snack bar in Berlin". In addition to the classic currywurst, there is also a vegan alternative here, as well as the good old bockwurst with potato salad or boulette with chips on the menu.
  • Mustafa's vegetable kebab - It has become so legendary that you should always bring some waiting time with you.
  • Hasir - Another long-established address. founded in 1971, Hasir still appears in a number of TikTok videos today.

Burger - fusion style, classic or smashed

Who would have thought that a patty between two halves of a bun could take so many forms. Creative as fusion cuisine with exotic influences, as a classic with barbecue sauce or - the latest craze - smashed, i.e. flattened. But they all have one thing in common: they are a feast for the taste buds and will make your mouth water.

Our tips for really good burgers:

  • Goldies Smashburger - We're still crying after the Goldies fries, but the Smashburger comforts us a little.
  • Shiso Burger - Combines burger enjoyment and Asian cuisine
  • Veg'd - Here you can get burgers with a black bun, among other things. Very instagrammable, super tasty and even vegan by the way.
  • Burgeramt and Burgermeister - Two Berlin classics that need no further explanation. We love a good pun.

Asian street food - endless possibilities

The "Asian" category is of course one that calls for thousands of sub-categories. After all, everything is represented in Berlin - from Korean and Chinese cuisine to Indian and Indonesian dishes, not forgetting Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, of course. The list goes on and on. Asian influences can often be found in a wide variety of street food sensations, as the range of flavours is vast and the possibilities are endless.

Recommendations for Asian street food in Berlin:

  • Thai Park in Württembergische Straße, every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm, until 30 September - The name "Thai Park" goes back to the beginnings of the street food market, which started with spontaneous picnics by the Asian community in Preußenpark. The whole thing grew bigger and bigger and took on the dimensions of a market. Here you can find authentic Pad Thai, papaya salad, deep-fried insects and much more.
  • Thai Bridge at Gleisdreieckpark, every Friday from 3 to 10 pm - The offshoot of Thai Park takes place in the outdoor area of the project space and co-wokring space B-PART.
  • Marubi Ramen - The popular Chinese street food restaurant offers ramen as well as dumplings, dim sum, other noodle and rice dishes and the popular dessert taiyaki, a fish-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste.
  • District Môt - Here you sit on colourful plastic stools, as is typical of Vietnamese fast food restaurants. The interior is colourful and brings the street food lifestyle from Saigon to Berlin.

Weekly markets - insider tips for street food fans

There are several weekly markets in Berlin where you can find street food flair. We recommend the following, for example:

Sweet temptations, too good to be true

These sweet temptations are all the rage, especially on Instagram, TikTok and the like. If you'd like to try one of these decadently filled pastries, Vietnamese crispy ice cream with endless toppings or the hyped donuts, you've come to the right place. But be careful, don't forget to take a photo before you fall over the well-formed beauties.

  • Croissant Couture in Mitte - This is where you'll find the round pastry made from croissant dough, topped and filled with various opulent creams.
  • Delabuu - Put together your own wacky flavour composition, which is then incorporated into the ice cream rolls on the cold plate. Toppings are of course added on top.
  • Chimney's Baumstriezel - What initially sounds a bit old-fashioned and like a Christmas market will not disappoint you. Because the Baumstriezel is just the basis for a wonderful journey of flavour into a wonderfully piled-up giant dessert.
  • Brammibal's - No visit to Berlin is complete without a visit to Brammibal's. Here you will find donut-turned-bliss.

The main thing is deep-fried

Admittedly, most street food is not necessarily known for being particularly healthy. A deep fryer is pretty much part of the basic equipment of every food truck, snack bar or street vendor. And because "deep-fried" is sometimes enough to recognise street food, we have collected a few suitable tips from this category for you here:

  • Frittenwerk can be found several times in Berlin - an absolute must for lovers of golden-yellow fried potato sticks. There are some unusual combinations here: Enjoy fries poutine-style, with pink hummus or as Istanbul street fries.
  • CorndogNinjas at Ostbahnhof - The traditional corndog consists of a sausage on a skewer surrounded by fried cornflour. The CorndogNinjas at Ostbahnhof give the tried-and-tested concept a Korean twist.
  • Munchies in Kreuzberg - Here, too, there are monochrome dreams that make the fast food heart beat faster and send the social media into a storm of enthusiasm.
  • Crusty Slices in Mitte - Experience extremely crispy and fluffy croissant dough with creative pizza toppings or as a sweet sin.

If a simple kebab is not enough for you, you can always delve even deeper into the appetising world of hummus, kebab and co. in Berlin.

  • Azzam - Sonnenallee in the Neukölln district is known for being home to one Arabic restaurant after another. Azzam is considered one of the best among them. However, be aware that the gastronomic culture ticks a little differently. The check-in process is usually quick and efficient, seats are only available with a lot of luck and table reservations are not possible - it's street food.
  • Sahara Imbiss can be found several times in Berlin, in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Schöneberg and Wedding. The menu features Sudanese specialities, including falafel and köfte. The incomparably delicious peanut sauce with which the dishes and sandwiches are served is a distinctive feature.
