As soon as the temperatures rise, life in Berlin moves outdoors again – and at the same time, the outdoor table tennis season begins. In parks, public spaces and along the canals, balls are once again flying across the tables and rackets are whizzing through the air.

Berlin is one of those cities where table tennis is a natural part of everyday life. Almost every neighbourhood has its own tables, meeting spots and little traditions of play. Whether you’re keen to rack up the points or simply want to enjoy a few relaxed rallies in the sun: here are 11 places in Berlin where you’d be best advised to have your bat and ball to hand.

At Park am Gleisdreieck, you can play table tennis surrounded by greenery yet right in the heart of the city. The park is a spacious open space between Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, with table tennis tables dotted throughout the grounds. This is where true table tennis enthusiasts, as well as casual players, come together to test their skills.

After the match, you can simply sit on the grass, watch the skaters or round off the day next door at the BRLO Brwhouse.

Between sets, it’s worth popping over to the grassy area or the beer garden, as it’s precisely this mix that makes Mauerpark so appealing. Here, you’re not just playing table tennis, but right in the heart of that typical Berlin weekend vibe.

Especially on sunny days, a relaxed atmosphere emerges where the focus isn’t on winning, but on the fun of playing together.

At Mariannenplatz, table tennis matches are just as much a part of the scene as the chats on the grass and the people wandering through Kreuzberg. The tables are where schoolchildren, long-time local players, or groups of friends meet to hold small table tennis tournaments.

Yet the square never feels like a traditional sports ground, but rather like an open-air meeting place where there’s always something happening. Especially on warm days, you’ll often stay longer than planned, as new players keep joining in and the atmosphere develops naturally.

On Lohmühleninsel, you have the chance to try out several sports at once. The southern part of the island is now a popular recreational spot, and table tennis is just as much a part of the mix as football, volleyball or jogging. At the same time, you’ll enjoy lovely views of the water and paths along the island.

If you fancy a longer session, play a match first and then carry on along the shore. Lohmühleninsel is therefore a good fit for you if you don’t see table tennis as a quick stop-off, but as part of an active afternoon in the fresh air.
