Französisch Buchholz (French Buchholz) as Berlin's historical vegetable garden

What can be seen in the exhibition? - At the centre of the exhibition are photographs by students that are reminiscent of baroque vegetable still lifes and in this way refer to the flight of the Huguenots from France in the 17th century.

The Huguenots, persecuted for their Protestant faith, found a new home in Prussia, among other places, and so French Buchholz, for example, came into being. Around the year 1700, 17 French families with around 70 members were already living in the village of Buchholz. They cultivated vegetables that were previously unknown in our region. These included asparagus, cauliflower and artichokes, as well as mulberry trees for the production of silk.

Cultural transfer was analysed by students
Architecture students from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences have been examining the significance of this cultural transfer in an interdisciplinary collaboration called Agritecture with the Humboldt University and with the support of the French Buchholz Citizens' Association and the Pankow District Office.
