Grünauer Wassersportmuseum (Water Sports Museum)
Grünauer Wassersportmuseum (Water Sports Museum)
Rowing, sailing, canoeing – yesterday and today
The history of water sports from 1835 to the present with all of its highs and lows, successes and failures, corners and edges. The small museum, originating out of a private collection, has over the years with its considerable range of exhibits developed itself into a museum especially for water sports in Berlin.
Rowboats, canoes, dragon boats, and polo canoes, along with boat and club badges & flags, insignias, medals, historical documents and photographs—in total close to 200 objects—bear witness to a pluvial sporting life upon the Berliner lakes; they illustrate the history of water sports from the beginning of the civil row and sail sports, through the workers’ sport movement, the history of woman’s sports, school sports and the Jewish associations, the athletic successes of the DDR time as well as the impact of the unification since 1990.
The museum is located right at the Olympic regatta course of 1936, under the historical bleachers; this lets a visit to the museum be combined with a charming walk along the Langen Lake.
