Spinnboden

Lesbian History You Can Touch

In May 1973, the lesbian group HAW (Homosexual Action West Berlin) began to document its work by collecting logs, flyers, posters and press releases. There soon arose the idea to create a comprehensive archive of lesbian history. Just ten years later, the association "Spinnboden - Archive for the Discovery and Preservation of Woman Love e.V." came into being.

The Spinnboden, as the cultural project is now called, is more than just Europe's largest and oldest lesbian archive and historical treasure trove for academic research. It hosts many events as well as houses its archives of books, films, posters and magazines, which can mostly be borrowed. In addition, self-help groups meet here and coaching and consulting services for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women are offered.
