Berlin is set aglow with festive lighting each year during the season leading up to Christmas. About 60 Christmas markets invite you to stroll and linger, surprising you with magical charm and seasonal treats along Berlin's main boulevards and squares, but also on small side streets and even in museums. Whether you prefer something magical or religious, trendy or urban, there's something for everyone.

The Classic Berlin Christmas Markets
The major Christmas markets in Berlin provide for a festive atmosphere and a wide range of crafts and treats set against the backdrop of magnificent sights all around the capital. The WeihnachtsZauber ("Christmas Magic") puts the Gendarmenmarkt under its spell, surrounded by the Neoclassical splendour of the Konzerthaus Berlin, the French Cathedral and the German Cathedral right in the heart of Berlin. Other historic places to celebrate the festive season include the baroque Charlottenburg Palace, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Spandau's old town and the courtyard of the Kulturbrauerei.

Christmas Markets in Berlin-Mitte
The particularly high density of Christmas markets in Berlin-Mitte turns the historic city centre of Germany's capital into Santa's workshop each year. You can easily walk from one market to the next. The large Christmas market with rides at Alexa is adjacent to the smaller Christmas market on Alexanderplatz. From there, you can walk past the TV Tower to continue the celebration in front of the Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall) with its many small alleys and ice skating rink. And the traditional Christmas Market at the Opernpalais is within walking distance.

Berlin's Special Christmas Markets
There are also many smaller Christmas markets across the city, many of which take place only over a single weekend. Some of these markets are known for some unique specialities and their festive atmosphere even beyond the city's limits. And others offer a wonderful opportunity to get to know one of Berlin's neighbourhoods a little more closely. The fairy-tale Christmas market at Jagdschloß Grunewald, the organic market on Kollwitzplatz and the Rixdorf Christmas market are some of the smaller markets with a personal touch.
