The Berlin Music Week, founded in 2010, offers a vibrant programme of international trade fairs, clubbing events and live concerts for fans and music professionals alike. The decentralised music festival offers numerous events at several venues in many parts of Berlin.

The Programme's Highlights

The Opening Event: 15 Years radioeins

On September 5th, Berlin's popular broadcaster radioeins celebrates its 15th anniversary with a big bash at the Tempodrom venue at Anhalter Bahnhof to the sounds of Archive, Jonathan Jeremiah, Gemma Ray (with strings), Budzillus, Olli Schulz and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg. The event will be hosted by radioeins’ own Berlin-hero moderators and DJs, and at the end of the evening, the broadcaster will treat us to a Special Guest performance.

Club Programme

The Berlin Music Week club program will be held from September 5th to the 8th. Every evening, venues and international promoters, labels, agents and organisers and media partners will be introducing and presenting artists of various genres and nationalities. The venues are some of the most well-known spots the city has to offer: Lido, Magnet, Comet, Astra Kulturhaus, Festsaal Kreuzberg and Fritzclub @ Postbahnhof – but also newer clubs like Bi Nuu (formerly Kato). Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is the main location for Berlin Music Week, with both official venues and off-locations in bars, cafes, businesses and underground stations.

Berlin Festival & Club XBerg

For its eighth edition from 7th to 8th September 2012, Berlin Festival is thrilled to announce a smashing line-up including The Killers, Paul Kalkbrenner, Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, Kraftklub, Bonaparte, Tocotronic, Orbital, Metronomy and many more. Festivalgoers purchasing a Berlin Festival 2-day ticket will be in for a treat this year. With 10,000+ headphones, the Silent Arena Aftershowparty will give ticket holders the chance to continue partying after the final main stage gig from midnight till 4am at Tempelhof Airport.

Under the banner Club Xberg, you can revel in and enjoy more of the city of Berlin. We’ll continue the whole shebang that is Berlin Festival with gigs, DJ sets and performances at the great venue Arena Berlin, Arena Club, Glashaus, and Badeschiff until the wee hours. Besides, the Art Village will be home to national and international artists presenting their work.

Berlin Clubtour

At the Berlin Music Week Clubtour on Friday, 7 September and Saturday, 8 September 2012, visitors can choose from five different bus tours to clubs featuring a live or DJ programme, depending on the genre. It offers the best possible opportunity to become acquainted with Berlin’s unique club scene and identify trends in a single weekend. Whether indie music, electro, rock or folk, Balkan, neo-waltz, techno or electro swing, DJ or live bands – every kind of trend and creative niche is sure to find the perfect stage. Visitors holding the Club Ticket can take their pick of five different bus tours leaving from a main departure and transfer point at Schlesisches Tor.

The ICAS SUITE is a traveling project that serves an open and collaborative festival format for the whole network and ist partners. The CTM Festival for Adventurous Music and Related Arts presents the second ICAS SUITE BERLIN during the 3rd Berlin Music Week. Running from September 5th to 8th 2012, the 4-day ICAS SUITE BERLIN forges ever new links between the city's burgeoning arts scene and music initiatives around the globe. It sees ICAS member organizations join forces with Berlin labels and music initiatives to test new collaborations and projects in concerts and club nights at Festsaal Kreuzberg, Monarch, Paloma Bar, WestGermany, and the newly-refurnished Paloma, involving the most exciting artists in their networks.

Closing Event: New Music Award

Berlin Music Week will once again be celebrating and awarding the “New Music Award” newcomer prize – and this year’s thrilling highlight will be held at the Admiralspalast as the festival finale. Each of the nine young people’s radio stations from broadcaster ARD sends one band to Berlin, the winner will also receive 10,000 euros worth of music equipment. The winner of the 2008 New Music Award was Bonaparte, in 2009 it was indie-pop band Jona:S, in 2010 Kraftklub and last year the band Captain Capa.

The newly launched Club Ticket is valid for the whole festival time and includes access to the BMW club programme, ICAS SUITE, club tour, New Music Award and the public transports.
