Seven at a time
While slowly floating past the green banks of the Kleiner Wannsee, the water glitters under the sun and Berlin reveals just how romantic and dreamy it can be. The 7 Lake Tour (“7-Seen-Rundfahrt”) goes over the Kleinen Wannsee, Pohlesee, Stölpchensee, Griebnitzsee, Glienicker Lake, Jungfernsee and then the Havel River before arriving back at the Wannsee. The border once ran through the middle of the Griebchensee, but there are no longer any signs of it. Nowadays, you only see nice villas and houses along with their beautiful waterside properties. Almost every Berliner dreams of having a house in green surroundings, and I’m no different. This is where I’d choose to have my place. Next up is the Glienicker Lake, where palaces sit along the banks. These include the Jadgschloss Glienicke as well as the Schloss Babelberg and its beautiful park. More recent history comes to mind while passing the Glienicke bridge, as this is where the GDR-era agents were swapped. Luckily, it’s only possible to imagine this type of scene being played out in a film nowadays. The mood livens up again when you float down the Wannsee and past its public beach. It’s hard to believe that this beach has already celebrated its 100th birthday. Once two hours have passed and the boat trip has ended, you will have experienced southern Berlin and all of its beauty. Furthermore, you will have gained a greater insight into the history that is written all over the city.
