Celebrate the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall fell on 9 November 1989! A world-historical event that not only signalled the end of the division of Germany, but also the end of the Cold War between East and West.

35 years later, Berlin will commemorate the fall of the Wall: official ceremonies are planned for 9 November 2024, the highlight of the anniversary year, and the city invites you to open-air events, exhibitions, guided tours and interactive activities

Historical and new posters, signs and banners will be installed along the former course of the Wall on November 9. They show what people fought for back then and what they are still demonstrating for today: Freedom - the foundation of an open and diverse society.

The anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall will be celebrated throughout 2024 with diverse and exciting events. Be part of it!

What will happen in 2024?

Planning in the German capital for the anniversary year is in full swing. We provide regular updates on the current status here. From May 2024, the Humboldt Forum in Mitte will be showing a major annual exhibition on the lost Palace of the Republic. The DDR Museum is just a few steps away: there you can already see a large, detailed model of the palace and original parts. The Berlin Wall Memorial recently launched a new multilingual digital guide that can be downloaded to your mobile phone.

From September 2024, C/O Berlin will be presenting the great photo exhibition Ostkreuz. Berlin-the 90s.

Highlight: 9 November 2024, of course! In addition to festive events, historical and new posters, signs and banners will be installed along the former course of the Wall. They will show what people fought for back then and what they are still demonstrating for today: Freedom - the foundation of an open and diverse society.

You can already visit exhibitions and events on the Cold War and the fall of the Wall.
