POMPEJI - Open-Air Cinema Ostkreuz

POMPEJI - Open-Air Cinema Ostkreuz

Open-Air Cinema in Ruins

One of the newest open-air cinemas in Berlin has risen in the remains of the Berlin Wall at the site of the former East German Progress Film Distributors at Ostkreuz. The Open-Air Pompeji Cinema has been up and running since 1st May 2012. The name is extremely suitable, given the fact that the screen is suspended between two brick walls that remained standing following a fire there a couple of years ago. The cinema has 80 seats, but only a few of them are protected against the elements. The programme consists of small art house films. Also on the premises are a pub and a beer garden, with the latter concentrating on the forthcoming European Football Championships.
