Mitte Museum am Gesundbrunnen

The museum offers snapshots of everyday life and stories from the historic heart of Berlin. Visitors can immerse themselves in German history in the oldest school building still in existence in Wedding (built 1864-66) and visit the small, lovingly designed exhibition to discover how life in Berlin's Mitte, Tiergarten and Wedding districts has changed since the 19th century.

The permanent exhibition gives an overview of the area's history, from its gradual development into the 'heart of Berlin', industrialisation in the 19th century, salon culture, and theatre and cinemas in the districts, to the famous scientists who lived and carried out their research here.

Everyday life in around 1900 is vividly illustrated in a number of themed rooms. A classroom from the turn of the 19th century gives an impression of what it was like to go to school here in those days.

The museum also has a library, an archive and an extensive educational programme.
