Artworks in tune with the space

– © Tourismusverein Berlin Treptow-Köpenick e.V. (www.tkt-berlin.de)

One can experience artworks here that are integrated with the rooms of the baroque Köpenick Castle that in former times functioned as wall and room ornaments within common and courtly living rooms: large scale tapestries, extravagant lacquerware and wall panels, noble leather-wallpaper, a cabinet with baroque cupboards from the Kunstkammer, valuable centrepieces, porcelain and silver.

The selection of over 500 exhibits is through their original function within the life and culture representative of the 16th to 18th century, particularly to its public, private, and courtly life. In this way, in the 21 viewing rooms, the artworks give way to a total image including the elaborate stuccowork and ceiling drawings of the castle.

To the high points of the tour belong four independent enterable, panelled rooms, among which are the richly inlaid Renaissance panels from the Swiss Haldenstein Castle and Castle Höllrich, as well as the silverbuffet from the Berliner Castle and the restored so called Wappensaal.
