The KaDeWe can look back on over 100 years of history. Adolf Jandorf opened the luxury department stores' back in 1907 and brought Berliners the latest fashions from Paris and exotic foods from all over the world. Good connections were important from the outset, as the west was still a long way from the centre of Berlin at the time and belonged to the independent city of Charlottenburg. After Charlottenburg was naturalised as part of Greater Berlin in 1920 and the territorial reform of 1938, it is now part of the Schöneberg district.

Since then, ownership has changed from time to time. However, the concept of the Kaufhaus des Westens has remained the same to this day: to offer high-quality goods and services in the luxury segment .

The sixth of the seven floors is particularly well-known and almost legendary: the delicatessen department, known as the Sixth. International delicacies, cakes and a large selection of wines and champagnes are available on the sixth floor. There are also many restaurants and cafés in the delicatessen department. You can choose between burgers, fish, typical Berlin dishes, the oyster bar and many fine specialities. With the remodelling, the delicatessen floor has become more airy and modern, new offerings such as Duluma and Kanaan have been added, while popular classics such as the Kartoffelacker have remained.

You can visit the bars and restaurants on the Sixth until late in the evening.
