Chamäleon Musik-Theater-Varieté

The Hackesche Höfe in Berlin-Mitte are among the most interesting specimens of architecture in Berlin. The various inner courtyards, which are connected to each other, bear witness to the magnificent period of culture at the beginning of the 20th century. And also behind the shimmering art nouveaux facades, there are further highlights awaiting visitors to Hackesche Höfe. The Chamäleon cabaret is located in the first transverse building of the Enngell’schen courtyard, which is named after its architect.

Via the historically preserved stair-well, visitors can reach the entrance to the cabaret located on the first floor. The ballroom, which dates back to 1906, has been extensively restored after having been neglected during the GDR period when it was misused as a storage area and a rehearsal room. Here the historic, art nouveaux hall once again offers space for about 320 audience members at small bistro tables. A small bar located at the end of the auditorium adds to the premises.

The Chamäleon’s programme is full of innovative shows which are modern in nature, eschewing the classical cabaret understanding of musical numbers and opting instead for modern entertainment formats. Musical numbers are thus connected in a congenial manner with artistry, dance, slapstick comedy and acrobatics. In addition to guest appearances such as the hit show "LOFT" by the Canadian troop "7 Fingers", the programme mainly shows productions done by the production company Circle of Eleven. This includes, for example, “SOAP,” which exclusively takes place in and round bathtubs and which has also proven to be a success on other stages as well.

The cabaret programme is supplemented by guest appearances such as the show “LEO” and one-time special events. Before the show starts and during breaks, the Chamäleon offers food in co-operation with their partner restaurant ‘al dente.’
