From anatomical theatre to the dissecting room of Rudolf Virchow
The former ‘Pathology Museum of Rudolf Virchow’ re-opened under the name ‘Berliner Medizinhistorisches Museum’ shows the development of medical science over the past four centuries. The permanent exhibition ‘Tracing Life’ (Dem Leben auf der Spur) presents in addition to medical instruments, valuable books and microscopes with around 900 extremely rare and valuable pathological-anatomical samples.
The visitor starts his tour in the early 18th century with a visit to Berlin's 'Anatomical Theatre'. From there, the path leads to the dissecting room of the pathologist, featuring Rudolf Virchow’s collection of samples, then to the laboratories of medical research, and onwards to a hospital bed.
Children and youngsters under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
