Snow is the best thing for getting into the Christmas spirit. So once a year, the biggest mobile toboggan run in Europe is set up right in the heart of Berlin on Potsdamer Platz. The run is part of the Christmas market that's held here and offers 70 metres of tobogganing fun. If you bring your own hard-shell-based "snowtube", you can use the toboggan run for free. Otherwise, it costs €1.50 per ride with a rented snowtube.
The Alpine hut experience
If you get bored of the endless up and down, young and old alike can also have fun ice-skating on the adjacent 40-metre long ice rink. This is also free if you have your own equipment, i.e. if you bring your own ice skates. If you suddenly fancy taking a turn on the ice, you can also borrow skates for €2.50 and join in the fun. Ice skating lessons for children between ages four and seven are even offered on the rink at the weekend between 10 and 11.30am. The lessons are led by professional trainers. Afterwards you can warm up and get your strength back in the "Schmankerl-Hüttn" treat huts.
