Film Screening and Discussion

Lufthansa will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. As part of the accompanying program for the exhibition “Lufthansa. Berlin-Tempelhof, 1926–1945,” the first part of the documentary “The Two Lives of Lufthansa” will be screened.

Using footage, some of it previously unseen, the film recounts Lufthansa’s early days in Berlin and its entanglements with the military, the state, and National Socialism up until the end of World War II.

The film also addresses the fate of Lufthansa’s chief legal counsel, Klaus Bonhoeffer. The older brother of the pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer was forced to lead a double life in order to resist the Nazis. Like his brother Dietrich, he paid for his commitment with his life in April 1945.

Following the film, there will be a discussion with director Peter Bardehle and Cornelius Grossmann, a grandson of Klaus Bonhoeffer, about Lufthansa’s early years under National Socialism and how the airline has dealt with its difficult legacy.
