Spätschicht x Leila Hekmat
In the spaces between the Gropius Bau, the open-form performance Layer(s) by Japanese choreographer and performer Kihako Narisawa is presented. In 20-minute fragments, she explores the layering of identity, visibility, and representation, merging film, dialogue, and live interventions.
Inspired by the visual strategies in Oliviero Toscani's campaigns for the fashion label Benetton, Narisawa's Layer(s) asks how cultural codes shape our understanding of diversity.
- What strategies do people use to express or conceal themselves?
- By what means is identity staged, perceived, and performed?
Referring to the concept of "Reclaiming the Self," which her Forecast mentor Hussein Chalayan also explores, Narisawa investigates how projection, etiquette, and cultural expectations construct meaning around the body in performances.
