The international order is in flux: from a values- and rules-based structure to a reality shaped by power and violence. In his lecture, renowned political scientist Herfried Münkler analyzes how Europe must respond to these tectonic shifts – and what role Germany, as a potential integrating power within the EU, can play.

The starting point is a sobering assessment: the transatlantic West has lost stability, and geopolitical certainties have been shaken. Münkler demonstrates why Europe urgently needs to become politically capable of action while simultaneously developing economic resilience. At the heart of the discussion is the question: Can German politics live up to this responsibility?

Herfried Münkler is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Humboldt University of Berlin. His publications are considered standard works of political theory and contemporary analysis.
