Since 1964, Zdzisław Jurkiewicz lived and worked in a small flat on Łaciarska Street in Wrocław. It was in this flat on Łaciarska Street that all the artworks that can be seen in the exhibition were created: Objects, paintings and photographs. The flat, of course, goes far beyond the traditionally understood role and function of an art studio. Thus, in the 1970s, Jurkiewicz's flat also became a kind of observation capsule, a laboratory and a botanical garden at the same time. Jurkiewicz carried out astronomical observations from his room window. At the same time, he set up a kind of sun trap in his kitchen and recorded it photographically. This is how the artwork Słońce 1.VII.1972 (1972) came into being - in a sequence of black-and-white photographs we see a solar disc on a kitchen wall, surrounded by ordinary objects such as dishes or chives in a jar. It is both one of the artist's most important works and the key work of the exhibition because it perfectly demonstrates how in Jurkiewicz's works the distant, the unattainable came together with the close, the everyday, the ordinary.

Jurkiewicz's strategy, which he adopted more than 50 years ago - basing his work on micro and macro observations of everyday life in all its manifestations, carried out in his home - resonates in a special way with the global situation we all find ourselves in due to the pandemic. For several months now, we have been "staying at home", as a popular slogan on social media put it at the beginning of the pandemic. Gone are our not-so-long-ago trips to another continent, to another end of the world. This is precisely why Jurkiewicz's attitude and his work are so relevant today. He stands for openness to reality, curiosity and the desire for knowledge no matter where we are, without having to travel to another continent or another planet.
