The Tempelhofer Feld is a unique green space in the urban area of Berlin, which has gained international fame as such in recent years. Besides its recreational value through sports and leisure opportunities, its role as a natural space is often underrepresented in public perception.
During two-hour urban ecology tours of Tempelhofer Feld, various topics are communicated in dialogue, referring to the special features of the area and its ecology. Special attention is paid to the grazing of the area by sheep. Interactions between farm animals, wild animals and the local vegetation are presented. Using special animal and plant species such as the skylark and the sand lizard, not only is the importance of the Tempelhofer Feld as a habitat vividly explained, but also basic biological concepts of different habitats and their inhabitants.
The two-hour tours are part of Grün Berlin's environmental education programme for young people and adults. The free tours can still be booked until October at https://www.campus-stadt-natur.berlin/parks-erfahrungsraeume/tempelhofer-feld/stadtoekologische-fuehrung/.
