Under the title “Spring Music”, the audience can expect a varied program of musical masterpieces, presented in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic.

The evening begins majestically with Georg Friedrich Handel’s “The King shall rejoice”, a lively Coronation Anthem composed in 1727 for the coronation of King George II in Westminster Abbey. This work, which is considered the cheerful sister of “Zadok the Priest”, opens the concert with powerful elegance.

This is followed by the approximately 30-minute Symphony in C major by Georges Bizet. This passionate early work by the 17-year-old composer combines youthful freshness with musical sophistication. The influences that later come to the fore in Bizet’s opera “Carmen” can already be sensed in the second movement, while the entire symphony is reminiscent of Prokofiev’s “Symphonie classique” in its liveliness.

After the break, a special treasure of music history is unearthed: the rarely performed songs Op. 9 by Luise Adolpha le Beau. Her works, characterized by romantic depth and extraordinary sound design, impressively demonstrate her talent for transforming emotions and musical traditions into new forms of expression. Le Beau's commitment to the recognition of female composers and her musicological contributions, including the essay "Female Composers of the Last Century" (1890), make her a significant figure in music history.

The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn's "Lauda Sion" op. 74, a masterpiece of late romantic choral music. Composed in 1846 for the Corpus Christi festival in Liège, this work combines liturgical texts with a deeply emotional and visionary musical language that impresses with both its beauty and its complexity.
