It's a poor prejudice anyway that Thom Yorke is just a stubborn “pain-man”. Radiohead always had a sense of humor. And even though Yorke's voice always makes him sound quite dramatic, he could still spill out punky, angry lines. Be it in grim, ballad-like songs like "Daily Mail", which is a single "Fuck You" to the correspondent newspaper, be it in his early work, for example in the grandiose "Anyone Can Play Guitar", which already carries the philosophy of punk in its title. Anyone who really knows and appreciates Yorke, shouldn’t be surprised at all that he now sings in a band called The Smile, plays the guitar and belts out furious post-punk stompers like "You Will Never Work in Television Again."

Two other people with Radiohead connections are romping at Yorke's side: Jonny Greenwood is "recovering" from his film score compositions for masterpieces like "Phantom Thread," "The Power of The Dog," "Spencer" and "Licorice Pizza" to once again properly play the guitar with Thom, and Radiohead's longtime producer Nigel Godrich produced the single.

Tom Skinner - otherwise drummer for the Afrobeat jazz band Sons of Kemet - is responsible for the massive drums on The Smile. The Smile recently released their second new single, The Smoke, which has been immediately added to BBC 6 Music’s A-list; the song follows the band’s debut single You Will Never Work In Television Again.

The Smile played three consecutive sold out live shows across sixteen hours and three time-zones at Magazine, London. The three shows were simultaneously broadcast in real time, via livestream to a global audience.
