Reading and discussion shortly before the Bundestag elections
After the state elections in Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia and ahead of the upcoming early Bundestag elections, pressing questions arise: How are the political landscapes currently shifting in the country? Is our democracy in danger? Where do these developments come from?
In conversation with sociologist Steffen Mau (‘Ungleich vereint’, Suhrkamp 2024) and psychoanalyst and author Annette Simon (‘Bleiben will ich, wo ich nie gewesen bin’, Psychosozial Verlag 2009), presenter Korbinian Frenzel (Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Studio 9) will shed light on the social, cultural and psychological dynamics behind these developments. What needs and failings are reflected in the election results? What hopes are there for the future? And how can we take responsibility in these turbulent times and find a new way of working together?
Steffen Mau, born in 1968, is Professor of Macrosociology at Humboldt University in Berlin. His book ‘Lütten Klein. Leben in der ostdeutschen Transformationsgesellschaft’ (Suhrkamp 2020) was number one on the non-fiction bestseller lists of ZDF, Zeit and Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
Annette Simon, psychoanalyst and author, member of various opposition groups in the GDR, member of the New Forum in 1989. Since 1991 she has published on the psychosocial processes of German reunification.
