Jürgen Wittdorf was celebrated in the GDR for his expressive portraits and nude drawings, especially by the youth. As a gay artist, he was not particularly appreciated by the authorities, and his depictions of young people earned him accusations of "westernisation". After 1990, Wittdorf was almost forgotten. His extensive oeuvre was rediscovered only recently. Schloss Biesdorf is now paying tribute to Jürgen Wittdorf in a comprehensive presentation featuring a large number of his masterful woodcuts, paintings, drawings and illustrations. His works are juxtaposed in the exhibition with contemporary positions by Veneta Androva, Norbert Bisky, Harry Hachmeister and Bettina Semmer.

The exhibition will not open until 04 September 2022, so the guests of the Long Night of Museums will experience a preview, a look behind the scenes of an exhibition in the making. The curators of the exhibition, Stephan Koal and Karin Scheel, will guide the visitors through Schloss Biesdorf and provide insights into the unusual development of the exhibition and the works of art on display. In addition to the curators, various actors will be present who have helped to make the exhibition possible in many ways. They will also share their personal stories about Jürgen Wittdorf's art with the audience.

Ongoing offer from 06:00 p.m. to 00:00 a.m.
