In her artistic project Nadja Bournonville deals in a versatile way with the life, biodiversity, legacy, representation and extinction of animals. For this purpose, the artist photographed animal objects and specimens in the Natural History Museum in Vienna.

From this arose a visual aesthetic cosmos, deeply rooted in being between beauty and deformation. At the same time, the photographs refer to the heterotopia inherent in the museum. The scientific knowledge inscribed in the exhibits disappears behind an abstract moment. Bournonville shows her photographs in an exhibition installation alongside videos and both real and virtual objects.

In 2020, her book of the same name was already published and won the Swedish Photobook Award.
