Hoffmann series in the wine house

He became world famous as 'Gespensterhoffmann', but E.T.A. Hoffmann was also one of the earliest narrators of the metropolis of Berlin. He expanded his Berlin to include the fantastic world and populated it with literary characters. He needed the real city as solid ground for his uncanny stories. As a flâneur, theater-, salon- and winehouse-goer he also took part in urban life himself and observed it until the end from his window at the corner of Tauben- and Charlottenstraße.
