Opera in one act / Libretto L. Bernstein
Two people who can neither live with nor without each other. If they want to eat together, they argue. If they argue, they can't talk to each other. So they go to the cinema instead. But is that the solution?
Leonard Bernstein's "Trouble in Tahiti" reveals the fragile foundation of the supposedly perfect marriage of Sam and Dinah, who seek happiness in success and possessions in an American suburb.
Through the interaction of students from the HfM Hanns Eisler and the UdK Berlin, classical opera elements are combined with modern musical language. The production encourages reflection on love, communication and materialism and sheds light on how the American dream can change relationships.
