Gallery ART CRU Berlin presents oil paintings by Harald Schulz (*1959, Guben), who was the only GDR student to receive a diploma in abstract painting at the Weißensee Art Academy in 1989. His pictures are thrilling color experiences, applied with brushes, spatulas and his own hands.

Harald Schulz's paintings were created like the works of some art masters in history, apart from current trends and developments and almost independent of the commercial art world.

It often seems as if Schulz walks onto the surfaces of his canvases and manipulates them with his hands in a Dionysian and intense painting process in a physical act, bringing them to perfection, to the point of ecstasy and complete exhaustion.

The explosive but extremely fragile formations on the surface of the picture as well as the thick layers of paint (impasto) convey the deep experiences of pain and beauty of transience. Every application of paint and every line seems to be in a struggle for survival of its own gestures. They are an expression of his creative process, which is shaped by impulses from the unconscious and represents the revelation of the existential struggle that each of the artist's painting frames represents.
