for the whole family

As a reward for serving for seven years, Hans receives a large lump of gold from the master. For Hans it now means: out into the world, out into life, out into freedom. On his way, Hans makes many barter transactions: he exchanges the lump of gold for a horse, that for a cow, that for a pig, that for a goose and that for a grindstone, which he drops into a well until he dies has nothing left at the end and understands: freedom is the highest happiness.
