German South Americans in Berlin: coming to terms with a colonial family past

"Germanness Abroad" is a project and informative series of events by the artist Helga Elsner Torres that deals with German colonial history in Chile, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela and the current debate on the recognition of German citizenship. The focus on this day is on the country of Brazil.

Helga Elsner Torres was born in Lima, Peru, in 1989 and has lived in Berlin since 2015. Through active exchange with descendants of German emigration (and at the same time migrants) from Chile, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela, artworks will be created that convey about Germanness abroad in an artistic way.
