In 1957, the foundation stone for the most successful gauge in the GDR and in many socialist brother countries was laid in a backyard on Grünauer Strasse, the headquarters of the Zeuke & Wegwerth KG company.
Inspired by the West German company ROKAL, which had introduced the TT gauge in 1:120 scale almost a decade earlier, the desire arose to create an equally space-saving system in 1:120 scale for the general population. This should fit into every apartment and yet be so detailed that it would be on par with the larger H0 gauge.
The exhibition in the Industriesalon Schöneweide, which can be seen from November 30th to February 28th, 2025, will shed light on the eventful history of Zeuke & Wegwerth KG, which was known as VEB Berliner TT-Bahnen from 1972, as well as the short post-reunification period of Berliner TT-Bahnen Zeuke GmbH.
A variety of original sets, advertising brochures, newspaper articles and historical photographs are presented. A model railway layout shows the compact constructions that impressively embody the name T(able) T(op) - stylishly built on an old dining table.
