"Don't wait for better times!' on youth resistance in the GDR "
Permanent exhibition at the Jugend [widerstands] museum
The permanent exhibition provides an insight into resistance structures shaped by youth culture in the former East Berlin district of Friedrichshain between the years 1948-1989, with a special focus on the district's long tradition of resistance.
Many GDR youth opposition groups found shelter in Protestant parishes, including the Galilee Church, where people spoke out against state repression, networked and provided impetus for the peaceful revolution of 1989.
Picture and text panels, original exhibition pieces, and visual and audio documents provide insights into the lives of resistant youth in the GDR. Today, the young people of that time are parents or grandparents and can tell their stories as eyewitnesses.
Today's generation can gain a variety of insights into the lives of resistant youth in the GDR.
