The music of Berlin-based composer, double bassist, and multi-instrumentalist Jaspar Libuda exists at the intersection of neoclassical music, film music, and soundscapes, drawing influences from Gregorian chant, early polyphony, minimal music, improvisation, and electronic music. His compositions are classical sonic landscapes—musical stories without words, a declaration of love to melody and the deep emotions it can evoke.
His latest live ensemble is a duo with guitarist Florian Segelke, with whom he has been playing for over 15 years in the Jaspar Libuda Trio. Using a specially built five-string double bass with a high C string, Jaspar Libuda creates timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar, and oud. Guitarist Florian Segelke, with his eight-string classical guitar, electronic effects, and a variety of playing techniques, produces a wide sonic spectrum ranging from rich bass sounds to powerful distorted textures and delicate guitar tones.
Together, the Berlin duo creates spaces in which time seems to expand from a fraction of a moment into a universe of sonic possibilities.
