Céline Rudolph's SONIQS have new music on the way. On the way to their new album (September 2023), the first single SUNDANCE announces their new sound: This music conveys the feeling of an endless summer day with the embracing warm voice of the two-time ECHO Jazz Award winner, vibing through exciting yet relaxed jazz and world music landscapes.
The shimmering heat takes any rush to relax and enjoy, while reflecting in tasteful electronics and vocal percussion samples throughout the song. And on the day of the ZigZag concert, they will release their second single FOOTPRINTS, a very personal tribute to Wayne Shorter.
The band is very much looking forward to giving you a great evening.
Born and raised in Berlin, Céline Rudolph is already influenced by music in her childhood. At the age of twelve, she writes chansons, inspired by her mother, a French woman. Her father introduces her to African-American and Brazilian music. At first she studies rhetoric and philosophy, but music is stronger, so she takes up studies in jazz singing and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts. In the 90s she intensifies her work with various projects and is awarded with numerous prizes for young artists. Since the early 2000s at the latest, it has been impossible to imagine the European scene without this versatile singer. She has played concerts with stars such as Lee Konitz, Till Brönner, Lionel Loueke, was twice awarded the ECHO Jazz and continues to work in a wide variety of genres from baroque to Brazilian music and jazz. In addition to her work as a performing artist, she has also been a senior professor of jazz singing at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden since 2003.
Regis Molina is a musician and composer from Havana, Cuba, currently living in Berlin. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays alto and baritone saxophone, flute, clarinet and Afro-Cuban percussion. Molina's passion and dedication to music has earned him several awards, such as the 2007 Latin Grammy, and has had him perform worldwide with renowned musicians and bands such as Till Brönner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Jeff "Tain" Watts.
Povel Widestrand is a Swedish pianist living in Berlin. After a basic classical education, he also studied at the Jazz Institute and graduated with top grades. As a member of various bands, he has been awarded numerous prizes at just 30 years of age, such as the young talent award of the European Jazz Week Burghausen and the Newcomer Award of Sveriges Radio.Sebastian Merk has drummed for jazz greats such as Lee Konitz, Ernie Watts or Till Brönner and has been reliably heard wherever German jazz has shown its most interesting side over the past 25 years.
Nevertheless, it is almost an impertinence to call Sebastian Merk merely a fantastic drummer. One has to come to this conclusion when discovering the projects, concerts and releases on various physical and digital platforms. There Merk works not only as a drummer, but also as a guitarist, keyboardist, sound architect, composer and visual artist of degrees. Sebastian Merk lives in Berlin and teaches as a professor of percussion (jazz/rock/pop) at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden.
