On the 14th of June, the Berliner Philharmoniker will end their 2023/2024 cinema season with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6.

Gustav Mahler's wife Alma described his Sixth as "his most personal work and a prophetic one at that".

The tragic tone of the symphony seems to foreshadow strokes of fate in the composer's life: his heart condition, the death of his daughter, and professional failures. The andante provides a moment of calm, with folk motifs and cowbells evoking an enchanting idyll.

Gustavo Dudamel, one of the world's most popular conductors, directs this performance. He has already performed Mahler symphonies on several occasions with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
