Oliver Steidle, one of the tone-setting players of the Berlin and German jazz scene in general, has assembled a top-class supergroup for this unique concert. The four top soloists, all leading heads of the international jazz scene, dedicate their program to the music of jazz giants Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman.

Michaël Attias has earned a reputation as one of the most emerging and collaborative figures on the 21st century New York jazz scene, with a background and perspective that make him a "distinctly cosmopolitan saxophonist and composer," as the New York Times wrote. His wanderings through North Africa, the Middle East, Western Europe and the U.S. Midwest eventually brought Attias to New York City in 1994, where he continues to pursue his muse as an improviser, composer and bandleader. The Village Voice described Attias' music-making as "ever-changing melodies, richness of timbre and a unique personality - you can almost see his music expand and contract." As a sideman, he has played and recorded with some of today's most original and compelling musicians, including such luminaries as Anthony Braxton, Paul Motian, Oliver Lake, Anthony Coleman, Ralph Alessi, Tony Malaby, Kris Davis, Andy Milne, Fay Victor and many others.Florian Müller studied jazz guitar at the Musikhochschule Nürnberg with Helmut Kagerer and Paulo Morello and now lives as a freelance musician in Berlin. In addition, he has had private lessons with Pat Martino and Jack Wilkins, among others. He is active as a composer in numerous ensembles and tours throughout Germany, including with Rudi Mahall. He is a three-time winner of the Bruno Rother Scholarship. In the meantime, Müller also teaches at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

Phil Donkin tours regularly with top international artists. Phil's latest work as a leader is "Value" (2019 NWog Records). It follows his earlier release "The Gate" (2015 Whirlwind Recordings). When Phil is not leading his own bands, he can be seen and heard touring with artists such as Oliver Steidle, Tom Challenger, Philipp Gropper, Frank Möbus, Kalle Kalima, Jim Black, Wanja Slavin, Johannes Enders and Bastian Stein. Phil has toured throughout Europe, North America, Africa and Asia. In recent years Phil has also played with John Abercrombie, Marc Copland, Ralph Alessi, Joey Baron, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Chris Speed, Dan Weiss, Ethan Iverson and Bill Stewart.

The New German Jazz Award winner of 2008 and 2010 Oliver Steidle is best known for his collaborations with Der Rote Bereich, Peter Brötzmann, Philm, his band Killing Popes or Klima Kalima, has been touring internationally for years and, according to the press, is one of the leading minds of the constantly evolving young Berlin avant-garde. The list of musicians he has worked with is long and could be continued endlessly: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Richie Beirach, Louis Sclavis, Tomasz Stanko, Aki Takase, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Sean Bergin, Tristan Honsinger, Trevor Dunn, Andrea Parkins etc.
