Guided tour, lecture and discussion

The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) is reconnecting with the colonial past represented through the objects in their collection. In preparation for a special exhibition of the SPSG in 2023 we invite scholars and curators to reconsider these objects through their perspectives.

Stephanie Archangel, curator at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, who among other things curated the exhibition “Black in Rembrandt’s Time” in the Rembrandt House in 2020, will be the first to give impulses. Her presentation will focus on Count Johan Maurits of Nassau-Siegen (1604-1679) and his approach and handling of objects from Dutch Brazil in the 17th century. An introduction to relevant objects in Oranienburg Palace Museum by curators of the SPSG precedes the presentation. A reception with beverages and snacks will give room for discussion in an informal environment afterwards.

  • The lecture will be held in English with German translation.
  • The guided tours will take place in German.
