28/28 Twenty-eight years of Berlin with and without the Wall

Special exhibition: 58 historical photos from 1961 to 2018

February 5,2018 is the day when the Berlin Wall ceased to exist as long as it divided Berlin, Europe and the world between 1961 and 1989.

Address

Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer

Bernauer Straße 111 13355  Berlin

Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer - Dokumentationszentrum

Bernauer Straße 111 13355  Berlin

To mark this occasion, we are presenting a special exhibition at the Visitor Centre on Bernauer Straße with photos from 28 years of Berlin with and without the Wall, mostly previously unpublished, with one picture each for a year between 1961 and 2018. The photographs from the collection of the Berlin Wall Foundation show how the Wall itself developed over the years and illustrate the changes in the city along the (former) border strip - during the years of division and from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the present day. The focus is not on the official political event history, but rather on largely unknown perspectives and unusual details. The photos, most of which come from private donations, tell stories about everyday life in the shadow of the Wall in East and West Berlin.
