Free themed tour on the occasion of the recognition of human rights on December 10, 1948
The Enlightenment of the 18th century is often seen as the initial spark for modern human rights - characterized by revolutionary ideas such as freedom, equality and individual self-determination. At the same time, however, this era was also characterized by profound contradictions: while philosophers such as John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau formulated universal rights on the one hand, many groups were actively excluded from these rights on the other.
The themed tour uses selected exhibits to shed light on this area of tension between demands for universal rights and reality and shows which struggles accompanied their implementation.
The dialogic tour focuses on the present and examines how historical paradoxes continue to have an impact today. The idea of human rights thus became a global but still contested vision
