On December 21, 2024, the shortest day of the year, Germany will once again immerse itself in the fascinating world of short films. After the great successes of recent years, this year's anticipation for SHORT FILM DAY, which has now become an integral part of the cultural calendar, is growing.

This year's motto "Forming gangs" invites people to create creative experiences together, strengthen connections and feel the power of solidarity through art and culture.
SHORT FILM DAY impressively shows how much film can promote community. Every year, the day of action encourages people to organize their own short film events around December 21 or to take part in existing events - with a wide range of styles and genres.
There is something for everyone here, and everyone can take part.
The 13th edition of SHORT FILM DAY promises once again a colorful mix of creativity, excitement, humor and depth – and above all, the best entertainment.
Program highlights 2024
A diverse repertoire of over 20 short film programs makes SHORT FILM DAY a very special event again this year:
The youth series Girls* Riot: Girls' Uprising deals with the lives of young women. The program was put together by girls and young women who have already curated film roles for the KUKI Short Film Festival Berlin.
Brand new are films from the International Roma Film Festival AKE DIKHEA? ("NA SIEHST DU?") in Berlin. The Spread the Wings program turns the common images of "gangs" of Sinti* and Roma* on their head.
Eleven times tomorrow - Berlinale Meets Football: In eleven short portraits we get to know youth teams from all over Germany and experience how football forms the bond between identity, home, friendship and self-efficacy.
The binational cooperation program of the AG Kurzfilm and the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) / KineDok Prague is again showing six current documentary film tidbits for all film gourmets under the name FEINKOŠT - The Czech-German short film tour.
With No Guts, No Glory, the popular Queer Films series is back for the longest night and tells of non-heteronormative living environments and overcoming resistance.
For the very little ones, the Spatzenkino is promising a white Christmas this year. The program is suitable for children aged four and over; with child-friendly moderation ideas, the film screening becomes a memorable experience.
Inspiring children's cinema can be seen in No Fear of Small Steps by the Hamburg short film distributor. In this program, small and large people show what it means to be brave.
Senior citizens of the Volkssolidarität in Dresden have once again selected short films together and came to the conclusion: It's better together. Seven films from five countries invite you to enjoy entertaining short films, including a treat from the DEFA studio for animated films.
The Fueled by Fantasy series offers a special and daring highlight:
Films from PaderPorn (ages 18 and over). Films from the first international short film competition of the PaderPorn Film Festival are presented, which since 2021 has on the one hand dealt with explicit film from a film history perspective and on the other hand sheds light on the independent filmmaking of contemporary filmmakers who deal with the sphere of pornography in a critical, deconstructive, playful and self-confident way.
There are also entertaining short film programs from interfilm Berlin, Luftkind Filmverleih, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and the Deutsche Kinemathek.
Also included is the wide variety of nominated and award-winning short films as well as festival highlights:
from the Oberhausen Short Film Festival, the German Short Film Award, also with barrier-free versions, the Youth Film Award and the Generation Film Award.
